CALAPAN CITY, Philippines -- At least 20 villages in Naujan municipality in Oriental Mindoro were flooded due to heavy rains, the Office of Civil Defense (Mimaropa) reported Tuesday.

Non-stop rains in the mountain ranges of Oriental Mindoro caused the river Mag-asawang Tubig to overflow its banks, affecting 4,300 families or a total of 15,828 persons, the report said.

It said that as of 9 a.m. on Tuesday, 420 families or 1,680 persons in the village of Inarawan were being evacuated.

In Legazpi City, Albay, reports reaching the Office of Civil Defense-Bicol on Tuesday said landslides hit the island province of Catanduanes, rendering the road from San Miguel to Viga and the road from Virac to Pandan impassable as they were blocked by landslides in at least 14 sections.

The Camarines provinces were beset with intermittent rains and occasional wind surges while the Masbate and Sorsogon provinces experienced showers and light winds.

In Albay, ankle-deep floods were experienced, particularly in the Legazpi City proper, but the water level subsided later in the day, said Jukes Nuñez, Operations Officer of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council.

Sea travel has not been fully suspended in the absence of any typhoon warnings, but small vessels were being discouraged from going out to sea.

Nuñez advised residents of flood-prone areas to avoid going out.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its Tuesday forecast said "Southern Luzon and Visayas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas."
