MANGYAN DOT NET: Virtual City of Mindorenos!

CALAPAN CITY – An overseas Filipino worker, who just recently returned from Italy to his hometown in Oriental Mindoro, was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman in broad daylight at the front of a local cockpit arena in Gloria municipality, said province, the other day.

Also wounded as a result of the crossfire was a barangay kagawad (village councilman) who was with the victim at the Gloria Cockpit Arena in Barangay Bulaklakan, said municipality, when the incident happened.

In an initial report to provincial PNP director Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. by Senior Inspector Neil Apostol, Gloria chief of police, the victim was identified as Bienvenido Loreto, 47, married, and a resident of Barangay Maligaya there.

Loreto died on the spot from two .45 caliber gunshots in his side.

The other victim, barangay councilman Benedict Surat, 37, of A. Bonifacio St., Gloria, sustained a gunshot wound in his neck. He is now listed to be in critical condition at a nearby municipal hospital in the said area.

Accordingly, the killed OFW and the barangay official were just arriving in the crime scene and about to alight from a multicab jeepney presumably to watch a cockfight there when the lone suspect approached and fired successive shots on them.

Policemen recovered at the scene of the crime two cartridges and an empty bullet case of .45 caliber revolver.

Local police investigators have yet to determine the real motive behind the crime. However, the PNP there strongly believes that the still unidentified suspect is known to the victim who comes from the same place.

bakit marami ng napapatay dyan sa mindoro dun sa amin sa naujan marami na rin napatay pero ni isa nahuhuli wala pa....
